Did You Know? History of UNCW

September 4th, 2017 marked the 70th Anniversary of the University of North Carolina in Wilmington, and there are plenty of milestones to celebrate! Since they opened their doors in 1947, they’ve grown from an extension of UNC Chapel Hill with 250 students to a public institution serving over 16,000! Their high-quality programs have been nationally recognized; “Best Colleges for Veterans” by the U.S. News & World Report; the Cameron School of Business by Princeton’s Review’s “Best 295 Business Schools”; and in the top 100 “Best College Value” by Kiplinger’s Personal Finance to name a few!

In 1977, UNCW started offering their first master level graduate programs; and the campus culture is amazing to behold! Faculty and students “are actively involved in generating new knowledge from research…enhancing [the] region’s economic vitality” and has been distinguished by the Peace Corp as one of the United States’ top volunteer producers.

If you’re ever on campus, take a moment to stroll the Senior Legacy Walk, located under the Clocktower. The 50-foot tower was gifted to the university by the Class of 2000.
