Here are Chauncey and Art’s fave spots:
#3 Masonboro Island
This protected barrier island stretches over 8 miles long and offers a flat sandy bottom beach with good swells and small crowds. It’s perfect for intermediate level surfers.
#2 Surf City Pier
Clean and well maintained, the admission at this pier is inexpensive with scattered Adirondack chairs for when you need a rest. Due to its popularity, it can be somewhat crowded, but there are soft sandy bottoms and few hazards.
#1 Ocean Isle Beach
Considered one of the best surf spots for beginners. Surfing is extremely popular here…there’s even a summer camp dedicated to it!
