The Memorial Day Celebration on the deck of the USS North Carolina offers the community a chance to pay their respects to all who have served this country. The ceremony features military and patriotic musical arrangements with a military guest speaker, an all-service Color Guard, a 21-gun salute by a Marine Corps Honor Guard, and a memorial wreath cast into the water. Battleship admission is free after 4pm.

Southport’s Memorial Day Parade will take place at 10:30 a.m. on the corner of Lord and Tenth Street convening at the John N. Smith Cemetery on Leonard Street for a Memorial Ceremony at 11:00 a.m. Then at 2:00 p.m. the Southport Junior Woman’s Club, with the City of Southport Department of Tourism, will co-sponsor Southport’s annual Memorial Day Observance, “Days of Remembrance,” honoring the United States armed forces. Hot home-made apple pie & ice cream will be served. This will take place at the Southport Community Building.

Tryon Palace will offer free admission to all active duty and military veterans, and their dependents/minor children in honor of Memorial Day. Since Tryon Palace is closed to the public on Mondays, the free admission will be granted on Sunday, May 26. This free admission will include the Governor’s Palace, historic homes, North Carolina History Center, and 16 acres of gardens. Military ID or proof of service is required for free admission.

The NC Aqarium at Pine Knoll Shores will host an event from 4-8pm to salute active military and their families. It is specifically designed for currently serving military who have children. Enjoy dinner catered by Village Market, live animal presentations, and take-home crafts for children of all ages. Guests will get a personal tour of the habitats in the aquarium, get to see a reptile presentation, and encounter avian ambassadors.
