Summer is upon us, and your fur baby is ready for the sun and surf! Give them the best holiday of the year with an opportunity to scarf down pupsicles, burrow in the sand, and race the endless waves. Our dog lovers at Century 21 Sweyer have dug up the top-ranked beaches in our area. Keep reading to find one of Southeastern North Carolina’s dog-friendly beach near you!
Oak Island
- Quiet, clean, and relaxing atmosphere
- Low surf that is more suited for smaller or older dogs
- Bags provided
Topsail Island
- Must be on-leash between May 15th and September 30th
- Waste laws apply to the entire town, not just the beach
Fort Fisher State Park
- Open to dogs year- round, but must be on-leash
- Waste laws are strict, but bags are provided
Freeman Park (Carolina Beach)
- Free parking between November 1st and March 1st
- Dogs can be off-leash between October 1st and March 31st
- Owners must carry plastic or paper waste bags
Sunset Beach
- Dogs must be on-leash no longer than 10 feet at all times
- Fewer shells, smaller crowds
- From the Friday before Memorial Day through Labor Day, dogs are not allowed on the beach from 8 am through 6 pm, but welcome after
Fort Macon State Park (Atlantic Beach)
- Free parking
- Must be on-leash no longer than 6 feet
Bald Head Island
- Pet-friendly ferry is available from Southport
- South Beach has calmer waters
- Dogs allowed off-leash year-round except during turtle season, in which case they must be leashed from sunset to sunrise (babies migrate in the evening!)
