37th Annual North Carolina Jazz Festival

When: February 2, 2017 to February 4, 2017 @ 7:30pm

Location: Hilton Wilmington Riverside

The 37th Annual North Carolina Jazz Festival at the Hilton Riverside in downtown Wilmington, NC, features several styles of jazz music over three nights. SCHEDULE: Thursday — Jazz ala Trinidad with Sea Pans; Vocalist Nnenna Freelon and her Trio; and Professor Cunningham’s Traditional Jazz Jam; Friday and Saturday — 14 All-Star musicians in the traditional seven sets of six or seven players, each set with a different leader. These are 4½ hour concerts.

The Odd Couple: Works by Joe Cordaro and Jock Pottle

Location: WHQR Gallery

The WHQR Gallery in downtown Wilmington, NC, presents The Odd Couple: Works by Joe Cordaro and Jock Pottle. Mr. Cordaro specializes in digital arts, while Mr. Pottle works in drawings.

 

Dinner Theater: I’m with Cupid

TheatreNOW in Wilmington, NC, presents dinner theater featuring a performance of I’m with Cupid, written by Ron Hasson. The play follows a grown-up Cupid, who is taken on as a client by the Circle of Friends speed dating service. Always an interesting topic and always a delicious lunch. And you are always welcomed to the meeting of the Historical Society of Topsail Island. The catered lunch is $13 for guests younger than 70, or $11 for those over the age of 70. There is no charge to attend the program only.

African Americans in the Civil War Navies

Location: CSS Neuse Civil War Interpretive Center

In recognition of Black History Month, we are featuring weekly profiles of African American sailors from both the Union and the Confederacy. These profiles will be located in our lobby area, and may be viewed free of charge.

Spoken Stories – A Look Back in Time

When: February 28 from 4pm – 5pm

Location: Hammock Beach State Park

Everything has a story that is waiting to be heard. Join us at the park for a storytelling session reflecting on the history that helped shape this community. Guest speakers will share their stories about Swansboro, Huggins Island, former children camps, shipbuilding, farming, as well as the history of Hammocks Beach State Park. So many changes to learn about!

Coastal Habitat Show an’ Tell

When: February 9 @ 5pm

Location: Oak Island Rec Center, Oak Island

Come welcome a whole host of wonderful speakers and learn about coastal birds and turtles, habitats and pollution. The OKU Sea Turtle Protection Program will discuss pollution and how if effects our island’s sea turtles and their nests; Sea Biscuit Wildlife Shelter will discuss our local coastal bird species; Bald Head Island Conservancy will enlighten participants on the differences between turtle species; and the North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher will offer all there is to know about coastal amphibians and wetland monitoring.

Run Oak Island
